Kumasi Beverage Delivery Truck
Background
The beverage market in Kumasi is booming, with daily demand for water, soft drinks, and energy drinks from shops, kiosks, restaurants, and private households. Currently, many resellers lack efficient last-mile delivery systems.
This project proposes the purchase of a used delivery truck (~CHF 10,000) and hiring a reliable driver to source beverages from local wholesalers and deliver to multiple clients across Kumasi daily.
Project Goals
With a small upfront investment, we aim to:
• Acquire a functional used delivery truck (pictured)
• Hire a vetted local driver with knowledge of Kumasi routes
• Establish daily distribution routes: early morning pickup at wholesale depots, deliveries through midday
• Build long-term relationships with corner shops, restaurants, offices
• Generate daily cashflow with minimal overhead
Opportunities
• High demand for last-mile beverage delivery
• Profitable resale margin between bulk depot price and local resale price
• Very low startup cost relative to potential return
• Can be scaled: add second vehicle or route as profits increase
• Contributes directly to local employment and trade infrastructure
Risks
• Fuel costs are high in Ghana, which reduces profit margin
• Vehicle maintenance and small breakdowns may interrupt operations
• Weather conditions (rainy season) may affect logistics in some areas
• Cash handling needs oversight to avoid leakages
Additional Info
• Direct employment of 1–2 local workers
• Stimulates small business growth by ensuring regular delivery
• Strengthens micro-logistics infrastructure in Kumasi
• Simple, low-risk entry into the fast-moving goods market
